Places on Earth that don't look real 🧵

1. Alaska has the clearest waters in the world

2. Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia

The world’s largest salt flat becomes a perfect mirror when flooded, creating the illusion of walking — or in this case, skimboarding — on clouds.

3. This isn’t a painting.

These are the magnificent Honghe Hani Rice Terraces in Yuanyang County, Yunnan, China.

These ancient terraces, used for rice farming, stretch across 1,000,000 acres and four counties, with a history of 1,200 years.

4. The view from this cliff is one of the most breathtaking on Earth.

Known as the "troll’s tongue", Trolltunga sits at 1,100 metres (3,600 feet) above sea level in Ullensvang, Vestland County, Norway.

5. Rainbow Mountains, China

6. Mont Saint-Michel, France

7. Switzerland doesn't look real

8. Ice meets lava.

Diamond Beach, Iceland, is where crystal-blue icebergs sparkle on black sand like scattered stars.

9. Richat Structure in Mauritania

From orbit, this site appears as a huge bullseye, earning the nickname "Eye of the Sahara."

Its peculiar shape has sparked theories linking it to Atlantis, which Plato described as a city of rings of land and water.

10. Raja Ampat Islands, Indonesia

11. Marble Caves, Chile

One of the world’s most unique natural wonders, the marble formations along General Carrera Lake have been sculpted by water for over 6,200 years — creating caves, tunnels, and towering columns of pure marble.

12. Tunnel of Love, Ukraine

Located between Klevan and the village of Orzhiv on the Kovel-Rivne line, this railway has transformed into a 4-kilometer-long green corridor, adorned with trees forming an archway.

15. Deadvlei is a white clay pan in Namib-Naukluft Park, located near the famous salt pan of Sossusvlei.

Its name means "dead marsh", though it’s often mistakenly called "dead valley," despite being a dry pan, not a valley.

16. Socotra Island, Yemen

17. Diamond Head is a volcanic tuff cone on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu.

It is 400,000 to 500,000 years old.

18. This is a milky-blue pool untouched by humans for hundreds of thousands of years.

The cave in Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico, was announced in June 2020, but the pool was only found in 2023.
